TL;DR: Simetrik is the better fit when finance needs to reconcile many counterparties at high volume, with templates and a deterministic engine. Modern Treasury is the better fit when you are building money movement into your product and want reconciliation where the payment starts. Runtime works the breaks either one surfaces, across payment ops, support, and risk.

Simetrik is the better fit for finance teams that reconcile many counterparties at high volume; Modern Treasury is the better fit for companies building money movement into their product that want reconciliation where the payment starts. Runtime is the AI agent harness for payment and fintech teams, and it works the breaks either tool surfaces across payment ops, support, and risk.

They land on the same shortlist because both promise clean books for payment companies. They get there from opposite ends: Simetrik starts from the data after money moves, Modern Treasury starts from moving the money.

Simetrik vs Modern Treasury at a glance

Simetrik is a reconciliation and financial control platform. Its engine matches transactions across counterparties, its Operations Center tracks exceptions, KPIs, and approvals, and more than 100 templates cover counterparties such as Visa, Mastercard, central banks, and regional processors. In August 2026 it launched the Simetrik Agent, which configures and runs reconciliations and analyzes exceptions in natural language, backed by a deterministic core of more than 110 financial control functions. Simetrik reports more than 180 clients in over 50 countries, including Santander, BBVA, Nubank, and Mercado Pago.

Modern Treasury is an API platform to onboard customers, open accounts, and move money across fiat and stablecoins, with compliance and ledgering built in. It supports ACH, Same-Day ACH, wires, RTP, FedNow, push-to-card, checks, and stablecoins. Reconciliation lives inside its products: Auto-Reconciliation and Return Management in Payments, and Account Reconciliation in Ledgers. It reports more than $600 billion in payments processed, names customers such as Robinhood, Gusto, and Navan, and in October 2026 applied to the OCC for a limited-purpose national trust bank charter.

Product scope

Simetrik. Reconciliation is the product. It reconciles whatever your counterparties send, wherever the money moved, with 5,500+ listed data sources and parsers that adapt to file format changes. ERP sync with SAP, Oracle, and NetSuite supports the close. It does not move money.

Modern Treasury. Money movement is the product, and reconciliation follows it. Payments sent through Modern Treasury are matched to bank activity automatically, returns are handled, and the ledger is compared to bank balances to catch drift. Reconciling a card processor or a partner that does not run through Modern Treasury is not its focus.

AI and automation

Simetrik. The Simetrik Agent works in natural language but calls deterministic control functions when results must be exact. It is available in Simetrik's web app, over an MCP server, and through a CLI, so outside agents can query results and exceptions.

Modern Treasury. Modern Treasury announced Modern Treasury AI, an AI agent and workspace for payment operations, in early access in May 2025; we could not confirm general availability. Its MCP server, released in April 2025, exposes its API endpoints to tools such as Claude, Cursor, and VS Code, which suits engineering teams building their own automation.

Deployment and security

Simetrik. A vendor platform with SOC 1, SOC 2, ISO 27001, and PCI certifications. No self-hosted option is published.

Modern Treasury. A hosted API with PCI DSS 4.0, SOC 1 Type II, and SOC 2 Type II reports. No self-hosted option is published.

Pricing

Simetrik. Pricing is not published; it is sold through sales.

Modern Treasury. No numbers are published. Its pricing page describes a usage-based model: platform access, per-transaction fees by rail, accounts and compliance, a minimum commitment, and annual contracts.

Where Runtime enters the picture

Both tools are good at telling you a break exists. Neither one closes the loop across teams. Take an ACH return on a customer payout. Modern Treasury records the return, or Simetrik flags the unmatched settlement line. Then payment ops has to find out why it bounced, support has a customer asking where the money is, finance needs a correcting entry, and risk may want to know if the account is compromised. Each team opens its own tool.

Runtime is the AI agent harness for payment and fintech teams. Agents pick up the exception from Simetrik's MCP server or Modern Treasury's API, read the return code and bank file, check the ledger and the processor, find the support ticket, and draft the correcting entry and the customer reply. A person approves in Slack or Teams before anything is booked or resent, and the case is one record.

  • No single vendor to depend on. Agents run in your AWS, GCP, or Azure account or fully self-hosted, on your choice of sandbox provider with fallbacks, using Claude, GPT, Gemini, or open-weight models, with harness routing across Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode.
  • Guardrails you set. Read-only by default, approvals before money moves or a ledger entry is booked, RBAC, masked credentials, PII and card data stripped from prompts and logs, every run recorded.
  • Built for teams. Finance, payment ops, support, risk, and compliance share agents, templates, and one memory of every reconciliation edge case.
  • An engineer, not an account executive. Our forward-deployed AI engineers built payment infrastructure at Hulu's payments team at Disney, Finix, Modern Treasury, and BlackRock, and build the first agents with your team.

Which should you choose

  • Choose Simetrik if finance reconciles many counterparties at high volume and wants templates, a deterministic engine, and ERP sync for close.
  • Choose Modern Treasury if you are building payments into your product and want rails, ledgers, and reconciliation from one API.
  • Choose Runtime if breaks keep pulling in payment ops, support, and risk, and you want agents in your cloud with approvals on every entry. Runtime runs alongside either one.
